Ahmednagar: In a deplorable incident in Sangamner city of Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district, the police personnel patrolling in the area were attacked by a mob when asked to follow the Covid restrictions issued by the government to curb the spread of the virus.
A mob of around 100 to 150 people chased, hurled stones, and beat up the police officers, who had gone to disperse the huge assembly of people in Sangamner’s Delhi Chowk at around 6: 30 p.m. on Thursday.
The mob also vandalized several police check posts.

The police have registered against FIR against several people in connection with the incident.
The video of the incident, which took place in Maharashtra Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat’s assembly constituency, has gone viral on social media.
“Yesterday our Police Inspector, State Reserve Police and Home Guard were doing patrolling in the area. They tried to disperse a huge crowd, a scuffle broke out and the crowd beat them up. We have retrieved the CCTV footage and registered the FIR. The accused will be arrested soon,” ANI quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police Rahul Madane as saying.
