ICC Test Rankings: The ICC Test Batsmen Rankings are out and three Indian batsmen are on the list. The most striking part of the rankings was that Pakistan batsman Babar Azam was overtaken by Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant. The top 5 of the rankings have maintained their position. Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Joe Root, and Virat Kohli have maintained their rankings.
Babar Azam plummeted three places while Rohit and Pant gained one place. Both Rohit and Pant had a good Test series against England. Rohit scored 345 runs in seven innings while Rishabh Pant scored 270 runs in six innings. Rohit Sharma’s 8th spot in Test cricket is his career-best.
Nicholls was the second-highest scorer for New Zealand in their Test series against Pakistan in January with 224 runs. He averaged 74.67 in the tournament. Babar Azam’s fall is linked to the recent duck that he scored against Zimbabwe. Recently Babar Azam overtook Virat Kohli in the ICC ODI Rankings courtesy of a good ODI series in South Africa and also some consistent performances over the last few months, Babar Azam has snatched away the number one batsman’s position from Virat Kohli.
Babar Azam has 865 points as against 857 by Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli was in the top position for 1258 days. The 26-year old Babar Azam is the first Pakistani to be the no. 1 ODI batsman since 2003 when Mohammed Yousuf occupied the top spot. Overall, he is only the fourth Pakistani to do so after Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, and Mohammed Yousuf.
