New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a far-right Israeli mob attacking a man near Tel Aviv they believed to be an Arab was aired live on television on Wednesday night. By the time the police and emergency services arrived, 15 minutes later, the victim lay motionless on his back in the middle of the street.
The incident took place on the seafront promenade of Bat Yam, south of Israel’s commercial capital Tel Aviv as the Israel-Palestinian conflict rages on.

In the footage, the man was seen to forcibly removed from his car and beaten until he lost his consciousness. The mob lynching was broadcasted by public channel Kan. The people from the mod tried to justify the attack by say that the man tried to ram the demonstrators with his car even though in the footage it can be seen the car was trying to avoid the crowd according to AFP report.
According to the report, a person from Tel Aviv’s Ichilov hospital said in a statement, “The victim of the lynching is seriously injured but stable”.
Meanwhile, far-right lawmaker Betzalel Smotrich who is the head of the “Religious Zionism” party, condemning the attacking said he was “ashamed” of the “atrocious cruelty”.
“Jewish brothers, stop! We cannot under any circumstances allow ourselves to take part in violent acts,” he said according to AFP.
Israel’s chief rabbi Yitzhak Yossef called for an end to attacks by Jews. According to the report, he said, “Innocent citizens are being attacked by terrorist organisations, the heart is heavy and the images difficult, but we cannot allow ourselves to be drawn into provocations and aggressions”.
On Wednesday night several demonstrations by far-right activists broke in different cities, leading to clashes with police and Arab Israelis. The police reportedly were responding to several violent incidents in Acre, Haifa and Lod.
In Acre, a mixed Arab-Jewish town in northwest Israel, a Jew was seriously injured by stone throwers, police said.
“The rioters in Lod and Acre do not represent Israeli Arabs, the rioters in Bat Yam… do not represent Israeli Jews, violence will not dictate our lives,” opposition leader Yair Lapid told AFP he is currently tasked with forming a government after March elections.
Since the Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque compound attack, Palestinian militants in Gaza have launched hundreds of rockets at Israel, which has carried out air strikes on the crowded coastal enclave. At least 53 Palestinians and six Israelis have reportedly been killed in spiralling violence so far as Gaza-based militants fired hundreds of rockets on Israel since Monday evening.
