New Delhi: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has recently given its approval to Meril, a Gujarat-based Medtech firm, for its self-use rapid antigen test kit for Covid-19 called ‘CoviFind’. The approval from ICMR comes amid significant surge in daily number of Coronavirus cases across the country impacting country’s testing infrastructure.
According to a statement released by medtech firm, the approval by ICMR for its home-use rapid antigen test kits will not just expand access to Coronavirus testing, but will also help the nation meet the demand for increased and frequent screening to contain the second wave of the deadly virus.

CoviFind, the self-use Rapid Antigen testing kit, delivers swift and accurate results in as less as 15 minutes, claims the company. The kits can be easily used by people at home.
“By making reliable rapid antigen testing available to all through a convenient format, Meril’s CoviFind test will facilitate early detection, isolation, treatment and contact tracing,” Meril Senior Vice-President (Corporate Strategy) Sanjeev Bhatt said.
What Will Meril’s Testing Kit Include?
The test kit is equipped with testing materials including a test device, one sterile nasal swab and a pre-filled buffer tube with a cap.
With CoviFind, nasal swabs need only be inserted 2 to 4 cms into the patient’s nose as compared to the standard procedure of inserting nasal swabs up to 8 to 10 cms for adults.

Meril’s self-use rapid antigen test kit for Covid-19 is available at a retail price of Rs 250 for a single-pack. The test kits will be available in two weeks at retail pharmacies, e-pharmacies and through e-commerce platforms including Amazon and Flipkart.
