Earlier in the tournament, Krejcikova had defeated Greece’s Maria Sakari 7-5, 4-6, 9-7 in the semi-final match. Pavlyuchenkova, on the other hand, defeated Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia 7-5, 6-3 to enter the finals. Both Krejcikova and Pavlyuchenkovahad reached the final of a Grand Slam title for the first time.
