New Delhi: If you have not taken the Covid jab yet and you live in Delhi, then this is good news for you. Now, the Russian Covid vaccine Sputnik V will be available in Delhi from June 15.
The place where the two-dose vaccine will be available is the Indraprastha Apollo hospital, located in posh south Delhi. Sputnik tweeted on the launch on Friday afternoon, posting a media report.
According to the Centre’s pricing schedule, Sputnik has been priced at ₹ 1,145, which will contain hospital charges and tax.
This comes as a sign of relief as the national capital had shut down vaccination centres last week due to the shortage of vaccine as the country is still facing the repercussions of the brutal second phase of Coronavirus. Many states are still under lockdown even though cases have decreased because a major population remains unvaccinated.
The 18-44 age group has been struggling the most to find a vaccine slot due to shortage. However, PM Modi has assured that there will be no such situation in the country as centre will be handling the vaccine distribution plan with new guidelines from June 21st.
The vaccine shortage has been raising concern as several states prepare to counter a third wave of the virus. Experts have said that this can be one only if all the people in the country receive the jab as soon as possible.
Dr Reddy’s Laboratories had applied for emergency use approval of the vaccine in February. A single-dose variant Sputnik Light which has a 79.4 per cent efficacy rate could also be approved soon.
Sputnik, which received approval from the drug regulator in April, will be manufactured by five pharma firms in the country and 850 million doses are going to be produced annually.
The vaccine has the highest effectiveness – 91.6 per cent – next to the Moderna and Pfizer shots.
