New Delhi: Amid the shortage of vaccines following the unprecedented surge in Covid-19 cases, several states have floated global tenders for the jabs in a bid to increase the inoculation drive.
The development comes after several states, which have witnessed a massive surge in daily caseload in the past few weeks, were forced to shut vaccination centers amid vaccine shortage.
Delhi
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government in Delhi will float a global tender for procuring coronavirus vaccines. He alleged that the Centre was “forcing” the state governments to invite global tenders for vaccine procurement. Sisodia’s remarks came as Delhi is currently facing vaccine shortage amid the second wave of the virus.
Maharashtra
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had last month said the Maharashtra Government will float a global tender for COVID-19 vaccines and Remdesivir injections. In tune with the same, the state government later on April 27 floated global tenders for oxygen, Remdesivir vials and PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) plants. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to issue a global tender for purchase of about 50 lakh doses to ramp up Mumbai’s immunization drive.
Andhra Pradesh
In view of the limited supply of stock from the Centre, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the senior officials to explore the possibility of inviting global tenders for coronavirus vaccine. He said earlier on Monday that facts and figures pertaining to the availability of Covid vaccine should be clearly explained to the people.
Telangana
The Telangana Government on Tuesday said it will float global tenders for procuring the vaccine to inoculate the state’s entire population. The decision came amid shortage in vaccines availability in the state.

Odisha
With Odisha witnessing an alarming surge in Covid-19 cases, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led government on Monday decided to invite global tenders from vaccine manufacturers for procurement of vaccine. The Odisha State Medical Corporation (OSMC) will float the global e-tender, as per a government notification.
Uttar Pradesh
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government had earlier this month floated global e-tenders to procure four crore doses of vaccines from licensed manufacturers. The Uttar Pradesh Medical Supply Corporation Limited (UPMSCL) had earlier on May 5 invited global bids for purchasing 40 million doses of Covid vaccine.
Karnataka
The state government on Tuesday decided to invite global tenders from vaccine manufacturers for procurement of the Covid-19 vaccine. This came as Karnataka is facing a severe shortage of vaccines to administer those above 18 years of age.
