After slight breather due to a dip in number of fresh Covid-19 cases yesterday, India again on Wednesday recorded a notable surge. As per the latest health bulletin issued by the Union Home Ministry, India lodged 3,82,315 new COVID19 cases and 3,780 deaths in the last 24 hours. With this, the Coronavirus case tally has jumped to 2,06,65,148 while the death toll has been pushed to 2,26,188.
The health bulletin stated that there are as many as 34,87,229 active cases in the country. India’s cumulative recoveries stand at 1,69,51,731 with 3,38,439 recoveries being reported in the last 24 hours. With this, the National Recovery Rate is 81.91%.
Cumulative vaccination coverage exceeds 15.89 crore as phase-3 of Vaccination drive commences. 4,06,339 beneficiaries of the age group 18-44 years received their first dose of COVID vaccine across 12 States/UT.
Indian Council of Medical Research reported that 29,48,52,078 samples were tested for COVID19 up to 4th May 2021. Of these 15,41,299 samples were tested yesterday.
Delhi reported 19,953 new COVID-19 cases and 338 deaths on 4th May 2021. As per the latest health bulletin, the total cases now stand at 12,32,942 while the death toll has climbed to 17,752. Till date, 11,24,771 Covid patients have recovered while there are 90,419 active cases of Coronavirus in the national capital.
Speaking of worst-hit state, Maharashtra on Tuesday recorded a 5 per cent drop in positivity rate of COVID infection, from 27 percent to 22 per cent, adding that recovery rate is at 84.07 per cent, which is the highest in the country.
Rajasthan on the other hand recorded the highest single-day spike of 16,974 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, pushing its infection tally to 6,68,221. The state health department in a bulletin said number of active cases in the state also rose to 1,97,045 while 154 fresh COVID-19 fatalities were registered.
